But there are also many other aspects to SEO that many people ignore, or simply don’t put much effort into. SEO is changing all the time, and it’s difficult to keep up with keyword rankings and requirements. That’s not to say you shouldn’t ensure that the keywords, meta descriptions, title tags, links and URLs you use are the best they can be, but there are other strategies that can help your SEO efforts:

.

Adapting to Mobile

More than half of online searches are now conducted on mobile platforms. If your site isn’t tailored to mobile searches, you could be missing out on many potential visitors to your site. There are a number of methods for adapting a website to mobile – responsive design, dynamic serving, or making an entirely separate mobile website. In the past, you would have two separate websites; one site for mobile and another site for desktop and laptop users. This is no longer the preferred option because you would have to maintain two separate sites with different URL’s. Dynamic serving uses one URL like a responsive web design so people can view your website on all devices. The HTML code would change depending on the device your viewing the site with. This is a very expensive option and if not done correctly, can cause a lot of problems with mobile search. A responsive design is the preferred method today because it’s affordable and easier to do. You just have to modify the code by adding a mobile style sheet to tell your site how to respond.  No matter what method you use for adapting, you should ensure that your site can be reached via mobile, and that it also ranks well in searches.

Localization

No matter what type of business you have, part of your business strategy involves location. If you’re a small store in a single city, you want to target customers in your area. If you’re a larger online service, you may want to reach customers around the world. Your SEO should be targeted to your location aims and you should have a Google+ business page to help you increase your local SERP’s. Adapting your website for mobile also gives a huge boost to your localization efforts, as many mobile users are searching for local amenities. For example, a person is probably on mobile if they’re searching for nearby restaurants, so if a restaurant’s website is targeted to local searches, it will allow it to be more easily found.

Social Media

Whether or not you’re very active on social media, social media can drive targeted traffic to your website if used properly and is an important component of an effective SEO strategy. Ideally, your sites SERP’s will be higher because of links on social media pages and will increase your sites popularity. Sometimes people go directly to Facebook or Twitter to search for a company, so you want to be sure you have a presence on all major platforms.

Website Load Speed

Site speed is a ranking factor to have good SEO, so you want to ensure that your site loads quickly. There are many sites online where you can check your sites load speed and see how it compares to other websites. Aside from just rankings, many visitors won’t wait long for a site to load, and could leave your website before they even get to it. Even seconds can make a huge difference in your site traffic.
